In My Garden: Jalapenos!
Jalapenos are a very easy crop to grow and maintain. They don't have the mold or insect problems that many garden plants endure, and are happiest in a warm and sunny spot. The seeds give jalapenos their heat, so if you want a mild-tasting pepper to add to your recipe, be sure to cut the pepper open and remove all or most of the seeds. When chopping any type of pepper or removing their seeds, make sure to wear gloves to keep the burning oils from getting onto your hands and/or into your eyes.
Living in Southern California we love Mexican food, and there is nothing better than to make home-made salsa to go with your tacos, burritos and enchiladas. Some chopped fresh tomatoes, jalapenos, onion, garlic, cilantro, along with a little salt and lime juice are pretty much all that is needed for a nice bowl of fresh salsa.
