Fox Door in Solana Beach, CA
The woman who hired me to do this entryway is definitely a nature enthusiast. She has sponsored trails along the lagoon in Solana Beach as an example of how much she loves nature. This entryway epitomizes her love of nature. The home where this door is installed has a view of the ocean to the west and lagoons stretching from the ocean to the east on both sides, and is a great place to see nature in an urban environment. You can see more wild animals and birds there than in many of the more remote areas of San Diego.
The door is made out of solid walnut. At 4 1/2” thick, 60” wide and 80” high it is a very solid and large door. The relief carving is 3 1/2” in some places. The design has native plants and fox, including oak trees, native California sunflowers, creeping sage and a number of other plants. The mom fox is watching her baby peeking through sunflowers. The birds are everywhere in the branches flying with butterflies and bees. The heavy relief carving stands out as an artwork of nature.
