Whenever I can do a nature-themed project I jump at the chance. So when a family who lives by Lake San Marcos asked me if I could make them an entryway with ducks carved into it I was very interested. I made an appointment to meet with them to see their home and start to formulate some ideas. They had a large entry door with two windows, one on each side of the door.  While doing drawings for them, I decided to combine wood, glass and cast bronze into their project, creating an art piece for their entryway.

The door frame, jamb and window frames were constructed from solid walnut. The glass is 1/2" tempered clear glass with reeds deeply carved into the glass, and cast bronze reeds were then overlayed over both sides of the glass. The ducks were cast in bronze, and split on each side of the glass giving a real feeling of them flying into the lake. Putting all these components together gave dimension and depth to the entryway. And the clients agreed that I had not only created a fantastic new entryway for their home, I had created a piece of architectural art.

This photograph was taken from inside the home.  The sun was shining in through the windows, hence the lovely effect!

Again, taken from inside the home.
