Olive Tree Entry Door

A few years ago I was commissioned to design and build an entry door for clients in Rancho Santa Fe, California. When I showed up for the appointment I took in the surrounding area for ideas. The style of the home was Colonial Spanish. They had a beautiful landscape, with ponds, trees, birds and bees, an idyllic nature scene which they loved. I came up with an olive tree design, the tree being carved in wood and incorporating glass so the entry hall would have natural light.

The door is solid mahogany carved on both sides with the branches extending into the glass and a carved little bird sitting in one of the branches on the door, look closely and you can see her. The glass is carved, painted and fused with bumble bees and small branches and leaves, and textured for privacy.

After installing the entry they were so pleased with it they wanted me to continue the design on a large master bedroom window next to the entry. The wife loved dragonflies, so I made sure to include some in the design.
