Desk for a Home Office in Newport Beach, California

This is really a special desk, Arts and Crafts detailing, and very masculine. Built for a home office with pencil drawers, file drawers, and other miscellaneous drawers. It's design is not only beautiful, it's functional.

I purchased a large thick slab of heavily figured Claro Walnut, to make the desk, from a saw mill in Oregon that I buy special woods from. The client knew I work in metal as well as wood, so he asked me to incorporate metal into the design. The panels, drawer fronts, and band around the top are bronze with an acid patina to darken. We also made all the drawer pulls and two pull out surfaces above the drawers. We used a light dye to bring out the grain in the wood and a satin sheen catalyzing conversion varnish that doesn't yellow. The finish is very clear, beautifully showing the wood grain and extremely durable.

It took six people to bring the desk up the steps to the front door and four to roll it in on furniture dollies and stand it in place. There is such a difference between a desk of this quality, custom designed and made especially for the client, than anything you could find in the best of furniture stores. The craftsmanship just can't be compared.
