Egret Glass Panel

I designed and made this window for a master bath in New Jersey where the client wanted plenty of light but also privacy. It is made of 1/2” thick glass. I deeply carved the glass and placed custom mixtures of colored ground glass (that I custom mix myself) into the carved surfaces and then fuse the glass in my kiln at high temperatures, literally melting the colored ground glass and the carved glass together. And at the same time texturing the back of the glass making it less transparent but still allowing plenty of light to come through.

The window then becomes an art piece. A truely custom-made item, designed and hand-made in my shop. We also made the wood frame and installed the window into the opening (yes, I drove the window to New Jersey and installed it myself!) The window is about 5 feet wide and 4 feet tall, the design is of an egret in a pond, giving the feeling of an early 20th-century Arts and Crafts piece. This window took hours of work and was a fun project for me. The clients were a joy to work with and when all was done, they were extremely pleased with the outcome.
