Hand-Forged Iron Gates in Santa Barbara, CA

The gates pictured are really spectacular forged iron gates that I had made for a home in Santa Barbara. I’ve done a lot of work in the past for these clients and really enjoy working with them on everything that we do.

The gates are hand-forged iron with a bronze metal finish and patina. I fabricated the gates using 1” x 1” thick steel rods, with all the work being done by hand. I also fashioned the flowers and birds myself, along with all the hardware. The bronze finish is real bronze metal suspended in a clear exterior polyurethane. The whole process takes about nine coats and lasts for a very long time.

The design is a combination of roses and wildflowers and wild birds in an English garden style. As you might know by now, doing work that includes nature is something I really love doing and this art piece turned out beautifully. We also did the installation that included setting the posts in concrete and attaching the forged posts to the stone columns on either side. All in all from design to installation this was a wonderful project.
